Thats another £758 in the kitty!

Well I have had a lovely week off work which I spent in Melton Mowbray with my friends and family. I thought this time at home would give me the perfect opportunity to gather my friends and raise some more money for Macmillan Cancer.

I decided to organise 2 events which would be easy plan. The first; A Pamper evening for the ladies and the second; The Locks performed for the party animals!

So, the planning of these events commenced about 3 months ago. I designed the Tickets, the Posters and then once again hassled my friends to help with the ticket sales! At first it seemed like The Locks was going to be a huge success and the Pamper evening a failure. I had asked a couple of friends if they wanted to come but they did not seem keen on the idea of being pampered (although I reckon they could have all done with it, ha ha only kidding!) As a result of their attitudes towards the evening I decided to cancel. My friends had always supported me in everything I had ever achieved in life and therefore I thought if they were not willing to be pampered for charity then nobody would.

I informed Trish and Paula of my decision (2 very close friends) and they were not impressed. They were both adamant that they could sell at least 15 tickets between them. So, the tough cookie that I am, gave them a week to prove me wrong and turn the evening in to a sell out, and that they did!

Before you read what I am about to write, please take a seat......."I was wrong!" Yep, it is not very often you hear me say that, as lets face it, I am always right :) But, I take my hat of to everybody who sold tickets for the Pamper evening, you all did a fantastic job and raised me another £310 for my challenge. The event was a sell out and in the end I had to turn people away. Everybody I spoke to on the night said they want me to hold another evening and that I will. Tickets were £10 and everybody got a free glass of Wine - Nibbles and at least 2 treatments. So, not only did they all get a bargain, but I managed to bank some more money.

I want to say a HUGE thanks to the Therapist who worked so hard on the night and I promise next time you will get a break! The stars of the evening were:

Nina Hubbard - Hair Stylist

Jade Cokien - Hair Stylist

Jenny Pick - Foot Spa/Facial

Sally Ann Brown - Foot Spa/Facial

Karen North - Indian Head Massage

Chelsey Skiffington - Eyebrow and Lip Waxing

Claire Graham - Nail Painting/Manicure

Sally Cokien - Glass Collector!!!!

Thanks so much guys and I hope you will join me on the next evening.

Now, moving on to The Locks who helped me to raise £383. This evening was easy to arrange, all I had to do was nag at the Guys for a date and sort out the venue. I then had a few glasses of Wine and enjoyed the music! I think I deserved this as I was actually really stressed at The Pamper evening as I was getting bombarded with questions. Therfore, I decided a few glasses of White and a good boogey was needed, as after all I was on holiday!!

The Locks are on Facebook under 'Locks Room', so if you want to book the band or know where their next playing, please add them as a friend.

My sponsorship is now at a £2,033.00 as Kris Mayo also sold me £75 worth of Pin Badges, "Cheers Kris" If you would like to Sponsor me please visit http://www.justgiving.com/mariamunro/ I have now reached 51% of my target which I hope to smash before the middle of next year.

I am Bag packing in Asda on the 19th September and 24th October in Grantham. I am looking for helpers so if you have 4 hours to spare please come and join me in raising more money for Macmillan.

Before I leave, I just want you to take a couple of minutes of your time to remember some great guys who have unfortunately lost their lives to Cancer over the last couple of months:

Sir Bobby Robson aged 76 - He lost his life after a long battle with Cancer

Edward Kemmedy aged 77 - Brain Cancer

Don Hewitt aged 86 - Pancreatic Cancer

Harry Towb aged 83 - He kost his life after battling Cancer for a short time

Rebecca Lipkin aged 48 - Breast Cancer

Dominick Dunne aged 83 - Bladder Cancer

Farrah Fawcett aged 62 - Anal Cancer

Simon Dee aged 74 - Bone Cancer

These are just a few people from the media who have sadly passed away due to Cancer and not forgetting friends or family, who have also died suddenly, or after a long battle with the disease. They may be gone but never forgotten. R.I.P

Before Sir Bobby Robson passed away he said:

"I am going to die sooner rather than later. But then everyone has to go sometimes and I have enjoyed every minute."

So, I intend to enjoy every minute, whilst raising money for a good cause. Please help me to achieve this so hopefully in the future, people affected by Cancer will loose their battle later rather than sooner. x
